For the newly diagnosed

Hello

I hope your well? grab a cup of tea, sit back and relax. everything is going to be ok.

So, you have just been diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder, the next year of your life is going to be like no other before. There will be highs, there will be lows, and there will be messy middles. Everything you thought you knew about yourself has now been turned on its head and you question every action you make. Your on edge, and feel like you are walking around with a neon flashing sign on your head. Let me tell you a secret.....

you're not!

Nobody will know you have DID unless YOU choose to tell them, and you will, at some point. You are still the same person you was before you were diagnosed, you are still you. The people that love you unconditionally will keep on loving you, and those that don't are not meant to be a part of your future.

There will be days that all you can think about is how your disorder interferes with your life, it will be frustrating, and feel unfair. Your parts may spend days at time in your place, and you may come back to some difficult situations that you have to deal with thanks to your parts.
There will also be days where to a degree you completely forget about your diagnosis and the limitations it can have on you. You will laugh, you will love, you will have fun just like you did before you knew there was other yous.

Unfortunately there is one downfall and that is patience. You have to be incredibly patient to get to a point of acceptance, it certainly took me a long time to admit that I A) do have dissociative identity disorder and that it wasn't just a made up diagnosis my doctor decided to give me and B) because of this I do at times need some extra help in order to do "normal" things.
You will want to give up looking for this so called acceptance, especially if patience is not your strong point - but I promise it will come. One day.

I promise x
